The Taunton Flower Show is back in business and takes place from 6th – 7th August. This fabulous event is a great reminder of all the things we have most missed during our ‘Lockdown’ year. Getting out, meeting others, attending events, viewing the amazing creations and stalls and enjoying ourselves alongside others.  Although it’s a scaled down event this year we’re sure the buzz and bustle of this much loved Flower Show will be heartily welcome.

The Flower Show organisers are keen to recruit VOLUNTEERS, so if you’d like to help out contact the organisers through the Flower Show website or email the organisers: volunteers@tauntonfs.co.uk . Alternatively contact us and we’ll pass on your contact details.

Christmas is Coming! – Volunteers needed

Don’t know what to do with that Christmas Tree when the festivities are over? For several years St Margaret’s Hospice has been offering their local communities a Christmas Tree Collection Scheme. This involves organising a pre-arranged roadside collection service of Christmas Trees in early January. In return residents are encouraged to make a donation to the Hospice. What a great service which is this year being run with their partner Children’s Hospice South West.

The Hospice are calling for VOLUNTEERS to help run this charitable service. If you think you can help either as a driver or someone who can load and unload, then do get in touch with the Kerry.Baillie@st-margarets-hospice.org.uk or make contact through this website and we’ll pass on your contact details.

Wanted: A new Chairperson and Secretary for The Friends of Dene Barton Community Hospital.

The Friends of Dene Barton Hospital were established to raise funds for patient resources at the Dene Barton Community Hospital based in Cotford St Luke, near Taunton.  The Hospital has a Neurological Rehabilitation Unit and an outpatients section of the Musgrove Park Hospital Physiotherapy Department. Also based at the hospital is a District Nurses Hub, an Integrated Rehabilitation Team, a Pain Team and a Rapid Response Team. The Friends are urgently in need of a new Chairperson and Secretary. This very active and successful group may have to fold if they can’t find committed volunteers to take these roles.  Please help if you can. You can contact the current Chairperson, Alan Sutton, for more information. All enquiries will be confidential.

The group meets every five weeks and has tremendous support from the local community and especially the primary School.

Join other organisations in Taunton and make preparations for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations taking place in 2022.

Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. Having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old she is now the longest serving monarch. There will be year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world as communities and people come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic reign.

An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone. Across the four days the celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflections on The Queen’s 70 years of service. Taunton expects to celebrate with style.

The Rotary Club of Taunton is running a Queen’s Jubilee Forum and facilitating the exchange of ideas and event information.  Get in touch if you want to be involved by contacting Taunton Rotary.
